Root Canal Therapy

Save an infected or damaged tooth with gentle, effective root canal therapy.

Root canal therapy has an undeserved reputation for being painful. In reality, modern root canal treatment is no more uncomfortable than getting a filling — and it relieves the severe pain caused by an infected or inflamed tooth pulp.

When the soft tissue inside a tooth (the pulp) becomes infected or inflamed due to deep decay, a crack, or trauma, root canal therapy removes the infected tissue, cleans and seals the canal, and saves the tooth from extraction. At Grandville Dental Health Center, we perform root canal therapy with precision and care, ensuring your comfort throughout.

What to Expect

The Process

1

Anesthesia

Local anesthesia is administered to ensure you're completely comfortable throughout the procedure.

2

Access Opening

A small opening is made in the crown of the tooth to access the pulp chamber and root canals.

3

Pulp Removal

The infected or inflamed pulp tissue is carefully removed from the pulp chamber and root canals.

4

Canal Cleaning & Shaping

The canals are cleaned, disinfected, and shaped to prepare them for filling.

5

Canal Filling

The canals are filled with a biocompatible material (gutta-percha) and sealed.

6

Crown Placement

A crown is typically placed over the treated tooth to restore its strength and protect it from fracture.

Is This Right for Me?

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Root canal therapy is recommended when the pulp of a tooth is infected or irreversibly inflamed due to deep decay, a crack, repeated dental procedures, or trauma. Signs that you may need a root canal include severe toothache, prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold, darkening of the tooth, and swelling or tenderness in the gums.
