A professional-strength fluoride varnish, gel, or foam is applied to the teeth. Varnish is the most common form — it is painted directly onto the teeth.
You'll be asked to avoid eating, drinking, or rinsing for 30 minutes after the treatment to allow the fluoride to absorb into the enamel.
Fluoride treatments are recommended for all children and for adults at higher risk for cavities — including those with dry mouth, gum recession, a history of frequent cavities, or orthodontic appliances. We'll recommend the appropriate frequency based on your individual risk factors.
